We have big news! Jordan and I are expecting our first child! Baby Swenson is due March 29, 2020. We have been busy sharing the awesome news with family and friends. I wanted to take a moment and share some of the first moments of this pregnancy with you.
Life is about moments and the stories we find within them. Below is a video sharing the story of becoming us. In the video, I show how Jordan and I celebrated the official baby news, which I will break into details below.
If you cry easily, grab tissues now!

How did I find out? How did I tell Jordan?
We talked a lot about starting a family when we were dating and engaged. We both really wanted children and felt we were in a good place to start a family after we were married. We tried for a few months but the tests were turning up negative. I had started to worry it would take us longer than we thought, and so the month we found out I was pregnant, I actually was surprised! I had expected another negative pregnancy test. Prior months, I had taken pregnancy tests during the “two-week wait,” the wait time between ovulation week and period week.
The month I was pregnant, I actually was just going to wait until my “lady gift” turned up. One night, I had a very realistic dream I was pregnant. I ended up waking up and thinking a lot about babies again. That morning, after Jordan left for work, I took a pregnancy test.
To my surprise, I saw a very, very faintly positive. I could hardly believe my eyes! I never thought a pregnancy test would be difficult to read, but the line had me squinting and scratching my head.
Below is the video of me finding out I’m pregnant. I actually had begun some vlogging in May. One month I did not ovulate and another month had an irregular period. Vlogging was helping me to track my progress and possibly share our journey with the world someday if I felt comfortable. The video starts with me sharing where my head was at in July, prior to finding out. I also share how I spilled the news to Jordan, but we’ll get to more of that soon.
Here is a photo of that first test, the faint line to the left of the dark control line. See what I mean by it’s hard to tell?!
Officially Celebrating the News
If you just watched the video clip above, you know I slightly regret how I told Jordan about the positive pregnancy test. It took us both a few days to see the test lines darken and let it sink in that “yes, I am pregnant.”
I decided to surprise him with a “baby supper.” We hadn’t really said “we will be parents” yet. I had been cautious with saying “I’m pregnant” and I think this also had Jordan reserving his excitement. I wanted to do something special that would let us celebrate the good news together and feel more confident that the pregnancy was indeed real.
One night, after Jordan came home for work, I surprised him with a home-cooked meal and some baby-themed decorations and gifts.
I made baby back ribs and baby carrots for supper. I also had the kitchen decorated with some surprises. It was a special way to celebrate the beginning of this pregnancy and the start to a very special chapter to our lives!
