Have you ever stared up at the stars and suddenly you feel minute?
Starting this blog felt a lot like standing among the stars. The internet is already chock-full of creative social influencers. What business do I have adding to the noise? I found myself trying to “find my edge,” and quickly I felt defeated. I do not have an incredible story of victory in my life. My husband likes to tease that I am basic. I like coffee shops, spending time with my dog and cuddling up to a good book. The thing is, there are a lot of people who feel the same way. Growing up, I was always a chorus member in the plays I was in. I graduated a decimal point of the honor role (oof, that still bothers me) and I have gone on in life, well… just pretty average.
So why did I do it? Why bother adding to the noise when I have nothing “extra” to bring? Because, I believe even if you feel you are at best average, there is an opportunity at every corner of our lives. These opportunities and experiences in life can be teachable moments to others and to ourselves. Even the most average person can still experience an extraordinary life if we approach it with a heart of gratitude.
We are taught to be goal oriented and although there is value in setting goals, sometimes life alters our goals and plans. We jet off in a complete different direction than we intended. That is why I jumped into this opportunity with minimal goals and more of an open heart. I want this to take shape on it’s own and let the experience teach me and teach my readers vs. approaching it with a hard-core structure.
So. As I sit here drinking my mocha in a downtown coffee shop, I feel like an extra in a movie to someone who may be leading an incredible story, but the point is, we are in a way, all part of each others stories. I am eager to hear yours along the way and I hope you embrace hearing about mine.
Kindly, Kal
